High Gradient Magnetic Separation of Pure Gd2O3 Particles from Pure La2O3 Particles

Rare earth oxides such as La2O3 and Gd2O3 are abundant in waste optical glass. The separation of rare is beneficial to the recycling resources. In this study, oxide particles were separated from using high gradient magnetic separation, influence different fluid media (i.e., water, anhydrous ethanol, their mixture) on results was investigated. By measured zeta potential water/ethanol pH water with dispersants (Na2SiO3 9H2O, citric acid, Na2CO3, sodium hexametaphosphate), DLVO (Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek) calculations analysis applied also performed. showed that ethanol or adding a dispersant medium can promote under high-gradient field. Among conditions, improve grade 95% 70% water. Furthermore, be reused after filtration, making it an environmentally friendly medium. four dispersants, hexametaphosphate, Na2SiO3, Na2CO3 increase rate about 95%. effect acid performance slightly worse, recovery 80%. This study provides new reference for selecting separation.
